In this edition’s Talk Point, we bring to you a playlist of songs by musicians covering themes of caste, protest, religion and food among others. The musicians directly address caste hierarchies, capture the everyday lived experiences, and assert their identities in the face of violence and marginalization, through their music. The songs are shaped by both local traditions such as gaana and folk music, as well as pop and rap influences from the West. Some of the lyrics are informed by Ambedkarite, Buddhist and communist ideologies. The playlist includes songs in Marathi, Telugu, Punjabi, Tamil and Hindi.
